For children’s illustrators, there’s an importance of never spreading false information or creating anything hateful towards any group in society. Accuracy is important as there could be serious implications with any sort of misrepresentation of any group within society. A lot of Children’s book illustrators focus on representing diversity and inclusivity in their work, which is very important, but must be represented properly to make sure there is no use of misinformation that could harm the image of anyone or form any unnecessary opinions within children about the people around them. There’s a fine balance between wanting to represent a certain minority or event, whilst still presenting them respectfully and avoiding any bias.
Along with this, Environmental concerns could influence an illustrator in many ways. They could choose to focus on the more negative areas such as climate change and pollution, to bring attention to them and help educate the readers on not only the facts through imagery, but what they can do to help.
On the other hand, they could be impacted by creating nature based, beautiful designs that advocate for more attention to be directed towards conservation and protecting these environments and creatures from the harsh destruction of mankind. Book illustrations are extremely powerful with things like this, as they can highlight and visualize these events, striking a need for change within individuals that have come across it. It’s all about raising awareness, especially to younger people that may not already be aware, as they are the future.
